Parents, players, officials, and other coaches are encouraged to nominate coaches who meet the following award criteria:

1. Leadership - This coach provides leadership to their players and encourages the players to grow in confidence by helping each other out, helping the community out, and/or helping the players reach personal achievements in their everyday lives while upholding the team and organizational values.

2. Communication - This coach is able to facilitate discussions, bridge gaps between teammates, engage in positive reinforcements, employ mistakes as learning lessons, and promote the goal of having fun, while developing the players' hockey skills. 

3. Values - This coach is one who dedicates their time to creating skills that are fun, engaging, enriching, and promote teamwork. The Coach stresses that developing skills is more important than winning, all while teaching their players to respect opponents, officials, and the rules of the game.

4. Consistent and Reliable - This coach consistently arrives on time, prepared for practices or games.

5. The Coach is associated with a MEAHA Team.
