SAFE SPORT

SAFE SPORT

SafeSport is a training program developed to protect our participants.  It covers sexual , physical and emotional abuse, as well as, bullying, threats and harassment.

Who is required to complete SafeSport training?

SafeSport Policy requires training for those that:

Have regular, routine or frequent access to or supervision over youth participants

Are responsible for enforcing child abuse and misconduct policies

Are in managerial or supervisory roles

                                Are employees or volunteers

This includes, but is not limited to:

                                Coaches

                                Referees

                                Board Members

                                Team Administrators

At the July meeting, Chris Washburn asked that each local organization choose a person to be SafeSport Coordinator for your organization.  Please forward the name and contact information of this individual to Tom Romano at secretary@meaha.com

Information will be communicated directly to these individuals as to how we will keep track of who is required and who has completed the training within your organization.  In addition, information will be sent on how we will document cases in the state of Maine.  This information will follow shortly.

SafeSport training is up and running now.  Here is the link:

USA HOCKEY SAFE SPORT

It takes only about 90 minutes, and you don’t have to complete it all at once.

However, EFFECTIVE MAY 2014- coaches must complete the training before a roster of the team will be completed.

Please contact Tom Romano at secretary@meaha.com with any questions.  Thank you.
